The Philippine Team in the UAE, composed of the Philippine Embassy in Abu Dhabi, the Philippine Consulate General Dubai, and the Migrant Workers Offices in Abu Dhabi and Dubai, operating under the One Country Team Approach, under the leadership of Philippine Ambassador to the UAE, H.E. Alfonso Ferdinand A. Ver, facilitated the repatriation of the second batch of overseas Filipino recipients of the UAE Government’s Amnesty Program 2024 on 19 September 2024.
Forty-five (45) Filipinos who faced problems in their stay in the UAE were granted amnesty and were repatriated in this batch. Among the beneficiaries of this repatriation effort were Overseas Filipino workers who had been undocumented for extended periods, parents with minor children, and individuals facing medical conditions. Their successful return to the Philippines was made possible by the generosity of the UAE Government which waived their overstaying and absconding fines.
The Philippine Embassy in Abu Dhabi and the Philippine Consulate General in Dubai provided assistance with their consular documents, while Migrant Workers Offices in Abu Dhabi and Dubai, in coordination with the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration,
facilitated their travel arrangements. Upon their arrival in the Philippines on 20 September 2024, Department of MigrantWorkers Secretary Hans Leo J. Cacdac led the distribution of immediate financial assistance to the batch composed of 17 OFWs with three children from Dubai and 25 OFWs from Abu Dhabi. All of them will receive reintegration services and other forms of support from the government.
The repatriation of this batch brings the total to 103 OFWs and five child returnees under the UAE Amnesty Program in coordination and joint efforts of the Philippine Embassy in UAE, DMW Migrant Workers Offices in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, and OWWA.
