DUBAI: Easy access to all services rendered to all stakeholders of the Philippine Overseas Labour Office in Dubai (Polo-Dubai) is currently available through the pioneering integrated portal system www.polodubaiportal.org.
Polo-Dubai is among 36 Polos around the world under Manila’s Department of Labour and Employment (DoLE).
Meanwhile, from the first monthly “Kapihan sa Polo-Dubai” (“Coffeetalks at Polo-Dubai”) held on Thursday afternoon, Labour Attache for Dubai and the Northern Emirates Ofelia Domingo clarified reports by the Metro Manila-based Philippine Star regarding the resumption of the deployment of household service workers (HSWs) to the UAE.
“We have to wait for the official announcement from (Philippine Labour and Employment Secretary Silvestre Bello III).
“We have not received any official communication yet,” she said.
The media forum is also open to all stakeholders, among them, officials or representatives of the foreign placement agencies (FPAs) in Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah.
It was on Jan.3 when it was reported that Manila would soon resume the deployment, quoting the Philippines’ DoLE-International Labour Affairs Bureau director Jesus Cruz, saying: “The order will be out probably first week or second week of January.”
Currently, the verification of the job orders for the HSWs deployment to the UAE—a crucial element—has not recommenced—and so with this situation, Domingo stressed: “No verification, no deployment.”
On Thursday, Polo-Dubai also inaugurated the Mini Library for distressed Filipinas it is sheltering until their respective labour cases are resolved.
As of Thursday afternoon, there were 45 wards and two of them were Jicelle Caguimbal and Rowaida Dimasilang.
Both welcomed the project stating that allowing them to browse and read books or journals while awaiting verdicts on their cases would relieve them of stress or worries, aside from increasing their knowledge.
The library, located at the Mindanao Hall of the two-storey villa, was conceived through the Sharjah Christian Family congregation, among the religious organisations which provide periodic spiritual nourishment to the wards.
Pastor Ricky San Pedro said the initial literature was donated.
Domingo said the wards have been divided into seven groups for each of the seven days at which they could spend time reading at the library.
On the Polo-Dubai portal system linked to that of the Philippine Consulate General in Dubai (PCG-Dubai), the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA), the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (Owwa), the Social Security System (SSS) and the PagIBIG (Home Mutual Development) Fund, Domingo said: “We are in the 21st century. We have to cope with the times just like the UAE. We have to level up our services.”
Available to the public are the POEA and Owwa services and advisories, overseas employment certificate applications and exemptions, as well as SSS and PagIBIG applications, including all downloadable forms.
Some entries are restricted to the Polo-Dubai and the PCG-Dubai.
A unique feature is the case management system for all the labour cases attended to by the two government offices.
There will be “easy monitoring” on how registered Philippine recruitment agencies and FPAs fare, including those which have erred and may receive warnings or even blacklistings.
