On this special occasion, we recognize and celebrate the invaluable contributions of the brave men and women who dedicate their lives to the sea, ensuring the smooth sailing of global trade and connecting nations across the vast treacherous oceans.
I wish to express my deepest gratitude to all the Filipino seafarers present here today and those out at sea, working tirelessly under challenging conditions to keep the world moving while serving as ambassadors of the Philippines.
As we gather here to commemorate the Day of Seafarers, let us take a moment to reflect on the vital role that seafarers play in our daily lives. They are the unsung heroes who transport goods across continents, facilitate international trade, and connect people and cultures around the globe. Their work forms the backbone of the global economy, yet often goes unrecognized and underappreciated. They sacrificed leaving their families to provide them a better future.
While we celebrate the achievements of our seafarers today, we must also acknowledge the numerous challenges they face. From long months away from their families to unpredictable weather conditions and the ever-present dangers of the sea, seafaring is a demanding profession that requires immense courage and fortitude. Additionally, the ongoing attacks of Houthi rebels on merchant ships plying the Red Sea area has further exacerbated the hardships faced by Filipino seafarers and seafarers of other nationalities who have absolutely no involvement in the geopolitical conflict in the area.
On this Day of Seafarers, let us not only celebrate the remarkable achievements of our seafarers but also commit ourselves to supporting and advocating for their protection and well-being. It is our collective responsibility to ensure that seafarers are treated with dignity, respect, and fairness, both at sea and on land. Let us work together to address the challenges they face, promote their rights, and create a safer, more sustainable maritime industry for the future.
Together, let us navigate through the seas of change and build a brighter, safer future for all seafarers and their families. Happy Day of Seafarers!
